Snow, Food and the Miracle of an Active Community

My community, Lansdowne has a Farmers Market. Its going to in its sixth year. This year we decided to try a Winter Market. It's Winter, there is not much good growing except for Mushrooms but there is soup, breads, cupcakes, flowers, chocolates, quiches, cheeses and wine!

This morning was our second Winter Market and for the second time it snowed! Its only snowed 3 times this year, two of which have been our markets. You would figure when it snows, and the market runs early (9-11am) folks would not come out but not in Lansdowne.

In Lansdowne they come out in droves. How cool is that! Yes, folks come to buy items but they come out to chat, and to see each other. They come out to participate in our Farmers Market tradition. Even in the cold and the snow, they mingle.

It's a great thing. Not only does the Market keep cash flowing into 12 small businesses, it fosters a community. Sometimes you walk down the street and no one says hi, not in my town, in my town they will put on their boots and come to the middle of town to see you in the snow.

I could not be prouder.
